Most businesses and all Seychellois or non-Seychellois, who are not salaried workers
and not contributing to the Social Security Fund require a licence to carry out
an income earning activity. This is obtained from Seychelles Licensing Authority
(SLA) and the fees payable depend on the type of activity. >> more

Gainful Occupation Permit (GOP) |
|
The Gainful Occupation Permit (GOP) is required by all non-Seychellois to work in
Seychelles on their own and for those employed by other firms or companies. The
GOP is issued by the Immigration Division, Department of Internal Affairs. >> more

|
All employees have to contribute 2.5% of their gross monthly pay to the Social
Security Fund. The employers’ contribution to the fund is based on the employee’s
level of pay. The employer receives social benefit refunds such as sick and
maternity leave, given to the employee. >> more

The Office of Tax operating under the umbrella of the Department of Finance,
is responsible for the administration and collection of taxes in Seychelles.

As of 1st January 2005 no Import Permit will be required for people wishing to
import goods into the country for personal and commercial use except if such
commodities figure on the list of restricted items.

All companies trading in Seychelles are governed by the Companies Act 1972.

The Seychelles Investment Bureau will provide information to investors regarding
land availability. Investors can lease land from the government and buy / lease
land from the private sector. If investors want to lease land from the government,
they have to submit a project proposal to SIB. It is advisable to identify a site

Employment protection is strictly enforced in the Seychelles. All employers are
reccomended to familiarise themselves with the Employment Act 1995 and Employment
(Ammendment) Act 1999 (Act 8 of 1999). When planning a project, investors should
take into account the procedures for recruitment. Employment services are provided
on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue.

There are six commercial banks and two other non-bank financial institutions,

The enactment of the Insurance Act 1995, created a more liberal environment
for insurance and reinsurance businesses. Seychelles has two insurance

| Offshore Investment Services |
|
The Seychelles International Business Authority is essentially a one-stop
shop, licensing and regulating offshore activities. It is the Registrar of
International Business companies and International Trusts, and regulates
International Trade Zone activities in Seychelles.

| Small Enterprise / Businesses |
|
The Small Enterprise Promotion Agency (SEnPA) became operational on the 1st
of August 2004 taking the place of the Seychelles Industrial Development
Corporation (SIDEC). The Agency will implement the policy and strategies
pertaining to crafts and cottage industries, guide the development and
maintenance of infrastructures and provide training and assistance in
