Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) is the statutory body
responsible for generation and distribution of electric power on
Mahé, Praslin and the Inner Islands.
PUC manages four diesel-based generating stations namely
Victoria ‘A’, Victoria ‘B’, Victoria ‘C’ and Baie Ste-Anne Praslin.
The total installed capacity of the three stations on Mahé is
82.5 MW and the maximum demand in May 2001 was 28.3 MW. The
installed capacity in the Baie-Ste-Anne Praslin power station is
6.8 MW and the maximum demand in 2001 was 4.3 MW. Due to the
aging of the plant, safe generation capacity is 59.5 MW and 4.5 MW
on Mahé and Praslin respectively.
PUC also manages an integrated 11 kV and 33kV-distribution network
on Mahé and the islands of Praslin and La Digue.
